Onlay Repair of the Gastrointestinal Tract utilizing Intact Intestinal Loop

Abstract
Ever since the original reports of Barnet and Kobold¢¥s jejunal patch or onlay repair for the intestinal fistula, more interests have been concentrated by several other authors.
The author created an artificial defect in the walls of stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, colon and cecum of the rabbits respectively and these defects were onlay-patched with intact jejunal or ileal loops in one-layer. Follow-up study up to 3 months made and following conclusion elicited:
1) The onlay patch repair of the gastrointestinal tract regardless the location, utilizing an intestinal loop, is uniformly successful and could well be included in the surgeons¢¥ armamentarium for the correction of gastrointestinal fistualae.
2) For full recovery of the defect by mucosal regeneration necessitated more than 3 months.
3) No single peptic ulceration was noted on the serosal surface of the buttressing jejunal or ileal loops.
